WHO IS JANET CLARK?
Well, most importantly for you, I am a trained mediator, collaborative lawyer and family law arbitrator.
How did I get there?
Well, I grew up in the North Okanagan before moving to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia.
Upon my graduation from the UBC Faculty of Law in 1989, I moved to Toronto to take a position with a Bay Street firm specializing in large scale acquisitions, financing and insurance law.
I became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1991 but returned to BC by late 1993 and was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1994.
I have been in the practice of law since 1991, most of those years being devoted to family law exclusively.
I am actively involved in the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and was the Secretary for the Westminster County Family Section from 2005 until 2015. I have just completed my second term as one of the elected representatives for Westminster County for the Provincial Council of the Canadian Bar Association. I have also been actively involved with the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association's working group on law reform and have appeared as a speaker for them in connection with the Province of British Columbia's initiative on family law reform.
I have been a guest lecturer for the Professional Legal Training Course for the Law Society of British Columbia and for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.
I am presently practicing in association with Westminster Law Group, a group of associated collaborative and litigation professionals with a strong focus on alternate dispute resolution.
If you would like me to help you as a mediator or a family law arbitrator, please make sure that I am aware of this when you call me, because I will have to see both you and your spouse (or the other person involved in the dispute) at the first meeting.
